“I was born on Acton peninsula on Lake Burley Griffin in the (now demolished) Royal Canberra Hospital in 1970. The lake, which is central to life in Ngunnawal (Canberra) in many respects, holds some of my earliest childhood memories. Exploring the lake many decades later, having moved away from Canberra in 2001, I have noticed a deepening of my relationship with the wilderness that surrounds the water’s edge. Places that were once familiar picnic spots, I look upon with new eyes—as the ordinary is transformed into a mystical otherworld in the light of the fog on a winter’s morning. ”
