Camera Mortuaria (Italian for 'mortuary room') explores the enigmatic appearance of the human figure in three-dimensional photography.
Hovering between reality and illusion, the portraits in Camera Mortuaria possess a disquieting edge and eeriness due to the subject's startlingly solid and tangible presence, juxtaposed with their frozen immobility and unresponsiveness, which is comparable to death.
Reminiscent of waxwork figures or embalmed corpses in a mortuary, the portraits present a curious paradox, a strange blending of life and death, reality and illusion, which is both entirely contradictory and intrinsically fascinating.
Note: Anaglyptic (3-D) glasses are required to view this work in three-dimensional form.
